Introducing family foods
Breastmilk alone provides a baby with all of the nourishment needed for the first 6 months of life.
From around 6 months of age, family foods may be introduced. Breastmilk, however, continues to be a baby’s main source of nutrition for the first 12 months.
The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months and then for breastfeeding to continue alongside complementary (family) foods for 2 years or beyond
